History of Our Lady of Grace Women's Guild (2024–2026)

The Our Lady of Grace Women's Guild was established as a nonprofit organization in 2024 by a dedicated group of women committed to preserving a legacy of Catholic women's service while creating a vibrant new organization founded on faith, fellowship, and charitable outreach. Following the conclusion of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Women's Guild, members embraced the opportunity to begin anew as an independent California nonprofit public benefit corporation serving the greater Downey community. Guided by the Blessed Mother, the Guild adopted the mission of enriching lives through spiritual, social, educational, and charitable activities. 

During its inaugural year, the Guild established its governing documents, developed its organizational structure, launched a website and newsletter, opened membership to women throughout the surrounding communities, and reinstated the scholarship and community grant programs. The organization quickly became a welcoming home where women of all parishes could gather in faith, friendship, and service. 

Throughout 2025, the Guild experienced remarkable growth. Membership increased to more than 200 women, allowing the Guild to expand its charitable outreach. The Guild awarded $9,000 in Catholic high school scholarships to seven deserving eighth-grade students who were continuing their high school education at a Catholic institution, and established a Community Grant Program to support local ministries and nonprofit organizations serving those in need. Fundraising events, including the Italian Summer Fundraiser, Christmas Luncheon, St. Patrick's Day Celebration, and the Spring Tea Party, generated thousands of dollars to support these ministries. 

The Guild also responded generously to urgent community needs. Following the devastating Eaton Fire, members donated $6,000  to assist affected parishes while continuing support for organizations such as Camp Savio, St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Raymond and St. Dominic Savio school ministries, Downey City Library, r and numerous local charitable programs. 

Spiritual formation remained the heart of the Guild's mission. Members gathered regularly for prayer, reflections, guest speakers, and faith-sharing opportunities. Monthly newsletters featured spiritual messages encouraging members to deepen their relationship with Christ while living the Gospel through acts of service. The Guild fostered lasting friendships while strengthening Catholic faith among women of all ages. 

In 2026, the Guild continued to mature as a respected catholic organization dedicated to serving both Church and community. Seven additional scholarships were awarded to students pursuing Catholic education, and community grants continued to expand their impact throughout the region. New programs, including the OLG Women's Guild Book Club and enhanced spiritual development opportunities, reflected the Guild's commitment to lifelong learning and faith formation. 

One of the Guild's most meaningful initiatives was the creation of the Golden Gems: Faithful Servants in Grace recognition program, honoring members in their nineties and beyond whose lives exemplify decades of faithful service to God, family, Church, and community. Their stories preserve the rich heritage of Catholic women whose example continues to inspire future generations. 

From 2024 through 2026, the Our Lady of Grace Women's Guild established itself as a thriving organization built upon prayer, compassionate service, responsible stewardship, and Christian fellowship. In only three years, the Guild demonstrated that with faith in God and the dedication of its members, a new organization could quickly become a beacon of hope and generosity within the community. 

As the Guild looks toward the future, it remains steadfast in its founding missionmto unite women in faith, fellowship, and service while sharing Christ's love through charitable works and spiritual growth.
